After a full teardown and a good scrubbing down, the machine looks spectacular! There is no wear that I can see on the playfield, all the rubbers are now new, and the dead lights replaced. A few sockets are needed and I have some trouble with a few lights. But other than that, it's coming along nicely.

From Gottlieb Premier, 1989 comes the most blatant ripoff of the popular Ghostbusters Inc. I bought it knowing that it was sold AS IS "booting to attract mode." And sure enough, that's all it does. Have a few hunches on where to begin troubleshooting though. Since it's my first System 80b game, it'll take some getting used to.

Over the last few months, I’ve had a nagging issue with Starship Troopers, one that’s really been mind boggling. Turns out it’s far simpler than I had thought initially.

It’s holiday vacation time from work which can only mean one thing – PINBALL! Took to replacing some bulbs that were out as well as replace the feet on the table and discovered a switch that was on its way to failure.

Can’t believe I’ve had this machine for five years! I was working on the pinball machine much of the day and looked into the game audits. Everything that happens in the game is logged. If you’re interested, here are the numbers since I bought the machine with some notes:

Total balls 3813
Extra ball 297
Extra ball percent 25% (Having a 4th ball on every 4th game is because the game has a built in ‘pity-ball’ where if you do exceptionally poor, it auto-lights the Extra Ball hole.
Total replays 191 (By hitting the replay score)
Replay percent 16 (One out of every six games having a free game isn’t that bad.)

Hitting 200 Million on the game has been extremely difficult. I'm still, after nearly a year, having a hard time hitting 100 Million regularly! The board just isn't designed for fair play. The left and right drain channels are too easily ... drained. I had a low score of 358,000 on one ball the other day. But today, I managed to hit the big one! Still, it's 4 Million lower than my lowest high score, and 70 Million lower than my high score of all time, 297M.

The B lane in the BUG bonus multiplier has given me trouble since I got the game. The lane was too narrow resulting in a stuck (missing) ball. You'd be sitting there in a zone and then it would get stuck. Frustrating. I tried to narrow off the upper ring with a blade, which worked for a while. But the ultimate solution was to just cut the O-ring off. Result: It works! I don't know if the wrong O-rings are on there or if it's just a hair too small in manufacturing. For now, it's playable.

The autokicker failed the other day due to a solder joint break. It's an easy fix. Unfortunately, I do not own a soldering gun. It might be something I should invest in if this is going to continue. I've had two failures of this type so far. The Recon switch failed a few weeks ago in this manner.

The fix included just cutting and crimping the wire and splicing in a new three to four inch wire extension to the solder blob. Until I get that gun, this will suffice.
